We CREATE ATHLETES!!! Hammer Down Athletics mission is to create athletes. It doesn’t matter if you’re current fitness level is couch to the kitchen or you are an experienced marathon runner. Athletic Journey… At Hammer Down we stress big picture. ALWAYS!!!
To be great at anything requires consistency. If you are a new runner and complete the half marathon, but then get back on the couch we fail. If you run for 2 years get through to the marathon, drop weight to your goal weight, but then get back to the couch, WE FAIL!!!! It IS NEVER about the finish line at a race. (although we always celebrate our milestones) the ultimate goal is when you KNOW you are on a life long athletic journey.
Full Body conditioning. Runners lose or maintain their weight very easily. What if I told you there are additional ways that you can lose weight, look GREAT! and stay healthy (yup, runners are notoriously always getting injured) Unfortunately, when new runners get injured, they get back to their couch and lose all the momentum and fitness they gained. At Hammer Down Athletics we stress and DO full body workouts. This keeps are muscles strong to support our running habit and as an added benefit, we look pretty damn good at the beach.
A COACH WHO WALKS THE WALK and HAS BEEN THROUGH THE PROCESS Can you do this by yourself? Absolutely!!!! I did this by myself. In September of 2001 I was 228 pounds at 5 foot 10 inches. (see About Us). Over the course of the last 8 years I dropped my weight to 155 pounds. My body fat percent is 10% (I was about 30%)
And I’ve run in 10 marathons including 3 Boston Marathons with a personal best time of 2:59:23 or a 6:51 pace for 26.2 miles!!! Not bad for someone who earlier in the decade was on his way into the ground. Along the way, I made a lot of mistakes, kept getting injured, at times lost my motivational verve. But guess what I’m still here.
I’m on the “Journey”. My goal is to put you on the same Journey. Do you need a coach? Maybe. I have the unique ability to alter the learning curve, motivate you, and make sure you do the “right” things. I am a coach and an educator for you during this process. I’m hoping you’ll be on this journey with me for a long time. But again the goal for Hammer Down athletics is to get you on the Journey. Crossing any finish line is only a milestone.
I will always, always, always, stress that! It’s ALWAYS about the Journey.
